StepsApp Community Rules

Version 1.0Last updated: 2026-10-28

A little friendly competition can make walking more fun. These rules help keep StepsApp welcoming, fair, and safe for everyone, whatever their pace or starting point.

They apply to everyone using StepsApp’s community features, including challenge creators and participants, and to profiles, challenge names, descriptions, images, and other shared content. Read them alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

1. Treat people with respect

Harassment and bullying

Do not target someone with abuse, repeated unwanted contact, sexual harassment, or coordinated attacks. Do not shame people for their body, disability, fitness level, or activity totals. Disagreeing with a decision or reporting suspected cheating is allowed; encouraging a pile-on against a participant is not.

Hate and discrimination

Do not demean, exclude, or encourage hostility toward people because of characteristics such as race, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability. Hateful slurs, dehumanizing imagery, and symbols used to intimidate others are prohibited.

Threats and violence

Do not threaten harm, encourage violence, celebrate abuse, or promote self-harm. This includes threats in usernames, profile pictures, challenge names, and descriptions. Asking for help or discussing a difficult experience respectfully is allowed.

2. Keep activity and rankings honest

Cheating and activity manipulation

Do not fabricate activity, use devices or software to simulate walking, exploit synchronization errors to inflate totals, or use multiple accounts to distort rankings. Do not sell or share methods for manipulating results. An unusually high total alone does not establish cheating: devices can make mistakes, and activity levels vary. Report concerns privately instead of publicly accusing participants.

What leaderboards mean

Step counts rely on users, devices, and connected services. Errors, delays, and manipulated activity can affect rankings. A displayed total or any checks we perform do not certify that all activity is genuine or that every instance of cheating has been detected. Rankings are for motivation and friendly comparison.

3. No contests, prizes, or payments

Contests and prizes are prohibited

You must not use StepsApp to organize, promote, administer, or participate in contests, prize competitions, sweepstakes, lotteries, betting, or gambling. Do not offer, promise, advertise, collect, or distribute money, goods, gift cards, or other rewards of monetary value in connection with a challenge. Entry fees, wagers, and payments tied to participation or results are prohibited. Moving an offer or payment to another app, website, or an offline arrangement does not make it permitted.

User promises and prize disputes

Creating a challenge does not make its creator a representative of StepsApp. Users are responsible for their own statements, including promises to verify results. A prohibited prize offer does not make StepsApp its sponsor or payment provider. StepsApp does not assume a user’s prize obligations or have to replace, increase, or extend prizes because results are disputed. Direct disputes about a user’s promises to that user. Our own express commitments and rights that cannot lawfully be excluded remain unaffected; see our Terms of Service.

Read the challenge and prize terms.

4. Protect personal information

Personal and confidential information

Do not publish or threaten to reveal another person’s home address, phone number, email address, precise location, walking routes, login details, private messages, or health information without permission. Do not link to information to encourage harassment. Remove identifying details from screenshots before sharing them. Report suspected cheating without exposing someone’s private information.

Intimate images and consent

Do not share, request, or threaten to share someone’s intimate images without their consent. This also covers altered images, sexual deepfakes, and images taken without the person’s knowledge. A previous private exchange is not permission to redistribute an image.

5. Protect children and young people

Safety of minors

Do not sexualize anyone under 18, solicit intimate images, groom a young person, or share material depicting child sexual exploitation. This prohibition includes synthetic or manipulated depictions. Do not encourage neglect, humiliation, abuse, or unsafe physical challenges involving children. Never repost exploitation material to report or condemn it; contact support with the location of the content instead.

6. Be honest about who you are

Impersonation and misleading content

You may use a nickname; you do not need to publish your real name. Do not copy another person’s identity or falsely claim that a challenge is official, sponsored, or verified by StepsApp. Do not forge support messages, screenshots, endorsements, or results. Altered or AI-generated content must not be used to deceive participants or falsely attribute statements to someone.

7. Do not spam or disrupt challenges

Spam, disruption, and evasion

Do not flood challenges with repeated promotions, unwanted invitations, deceptive links, or automated activity. Do not coordinate disruption, misuse reporting channels, or submit knowingly false reports to target someone. Do not create replacement accounts or challenges to bypass a suspension or removal. Any additional rules set by a challenge creator must comply with these Community Rules and our Terms of Service.

8. Keep shared content suitable for a fitness community

Names, images, and shared content

These rules apply wherever you can share content in StepsApp, including profiles and challenges. Do not use sexual imagery, graphic violence, or shocking content to attract attention or upset others. A warning label does not make prohibited content acceptable. Share only material you own or have permission to use, and respect copyright and other people’s rights.

10. Respect the service and its safeguards

Security and technical abuse

Do not distribute malware, steal accounts, bypass access controls, overload the service, scrape data without authorization, or exploit bugs to interfere with challenges. Automated tools must not be used to evade these rules. Report a suspected security problem privately to support rather than publishing instructions that enable abuse.

Report a concern

Contact [email protected] to report a rule violation. Include the challenge name or link, the relevant username, what happened, and when. Share only the information needed to understand the issue; do not send passwords, payment details, or copies of illegal material.

For suspected cheating, describe the activity you observed without organizing public accusations or harassment. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services. Support is not an emergency service.

Enforcement and appeals

Depending on the nature, severity, and repetition of a violation, we may issue a warning, remove content, disable a challenge, restrict community features, or suspend or terminate access under our Terms of Service. Serious violations may result in immediate action.

If you believe we made a mistake, contact [email protected] with the relevant account or challenge details, the decision you are questioning, and why you believe it should be reviewed. Do not create new accounts to bypass a restriction.

Reporting an issue does not guarantee a particular ranking, investigation outcome, or remedy. StepsApp does not fund or fulfill prohibited user-promised prizes. Nothing here limits rights or obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded.
