Awards Are Finally on Android
Awards have landed on Android: every medal, milestone, and trophy is now in your pocket. Collect them, show them off, and race your friends.
By Andreas Dolinsek, CTO at StepsApp
This one is for our Android community: Awards are here. 🎉
If you’ve ever glanced over at a friend’s iPhone and seen their medal collection glowing on the screen, you know exactly what you’ve been missing. Not anymore.
What are Awards?
Awards are StepsApp’s way of celebrating your milestones. Hit your daily goal, keep a streak alive, complete a Perfect Week, reach your first million steps: every achievement earns you a medal in your collection.
They sound like a small thing. They’re not.
There’s something surprisingly powerful about watching that collection grow. One more day until the streak medal. A few thousand steps until the next million-step milestone. Awards turn abstract numbers into moments worth chasing, and they’ve been one of the most loved features on iOS since the day we shipped them.
That gold one up there? 10 million steps, earned twice. Some medals take an afternoon. Some take years. That’s the point.
Which made it all the more painful that Android didn’t have them. We heard about it in reviews, in support emails, and in more app store comments than we can count. You were right. It took too long. Now it’s here.
Your profile just became a trophy cabinet
Awards don’t just live in a hidden menu: they show up right on your user profile. When friends open your profile, they see your medal collection front and center - your streaks, your million-step medals, your Perfect Weeks.
That changes things. Your profile stops being a name and a step count, and starts telling the story of everything you’ve achieved. And yes, it works both ways: the next time you check a friend’s profile before a challenge, you’ll know exactly who you’re dealing with.
Tap any medal and you get the full story: when you earned it, how often, and a share button for the moments that deserve an audience.
Fair warning: profile envy is real. It’s also excellent motivation.
May the best collection win
And that’s exactly where Awards get competitive.
The moment your friends can see your medals, every award becomes a little race. Who locks in the 30-day streak medal first? Who bags the next Perfect Month? You’ll know, they’ll know, and nobody wants to be the one still missing it.
It pairs beautifully with challenges: beat your friends in a step challenge and the proof lands on your profile for good. Trash talk fades, medals don’t.
So if your friend group has that one person who screenshots their step count into the group chat: their reign just got a lot harder to defend.
More than medals
What excites me most about this release isn’t the feature itself: it’s what happens around it. Awards, profiles, challenges - they all serve the same idea: engagement. More reasons to open the app, more reasons to keep the streak alive, more reasons to come back tomorrow and the day after.
That’s what keeps a community healthy. And watching ours grow closer with every feature like this is honestly the best part of my job. Awards on Android is another step in that direction, and the Android app keeps getting better with every release.
More to come
Awards are the start, not the finish line. The Android roadmap for the coming months is the most ambitious we’ve ever had, and some of the things in the pipeline are features Android users have been asking about for a long time.
I won’t spoil anything yet. But if you’ve been waiting for StepsApp on Android to get some serious love: this is your year. 🙂
