Apple Health automatically merges the steps of your iPhone and your Apple Watch. By doing so the overall steps can go up or down after the merge – this depends on your lead device. For the best experience, we recommend setting your Apple Watch as lead device.
Afterwards restart your Apple Watch and open StepsApp.

You don't have to keep the app open. StepsApp will automatically track your steps in the background without draining your battery.
To change the units from metric to imperial – or the other way around – please follow these steps:
StepsApp uses your iPhone's built-in pedometer to track your steps. Just put it in your pocket and you should be fine. If you carry your iPhone in your handbag, backpack, in your babybuggy or put it in the car, your iPhone might not be able to track all of your steps correctly. Likewise when you go for a bike ride, your iPhone might misinterpret some of your pedal strokes as steps. This happens because pedometers calculate steps based on vibration patterns.
StepsApp uses your iPhone's built in motion sensor to automatically calculate your distance. If you have the feeling that the distance is not correct, you might consider setting your step length manually.

Women: height (cm) 0,413 = your step length
Men: height (cm) 0,415 = your step length
Your device tracks your steps in the background and stores this data for seven days. When you open StepsApp for the first time, the app can access the last seven days of data and imports this into the app.
StepsApp uses your iPhone's built-in pedometer (it's actually a fully featured motion sensor) to count your daily steps. If you have an iPhone 5s or newer, StepsApp will work perfectly on your device.
If you have an iPhone 6 or newer, we also show you how many floors you climb. One floor is counted as approximately three meters (10 feet) of elevation gain. Just tap on the circle to switch between steps and floors.
The grey bars show the hourly average number of steps you take. You can easily compare your results with the average number of steps taken over the last seven days.
The amount of calories you burn depends on your body weight, size, age, sex and - most importantly - the distance you cover. The same amount of steps might result in different calorie values depending on your activity. Why? Your step length is usually longer when running than when you are simply strolling around in the city. This way you cover a much greater distance with the same number of steps – which in return results in a much higher calories-burned value.
We tried to find a solution but Apple does not allow that In-App-Purchases can be shared for family accounts at the moment.
What you can do?
Log in with your Apple ID of the other iPhone and try to restore your purchase from StepsApp on the other iPhone. After that, you can change the Apple ID Account. Another way is to write Apple and ask them when they plan to include family sharing for In-App-Purchases.
If you have a backup of your old iPhone (iCloud or iTunes), you can restore your phone's entire data from there.
Otherwise, you can also recover your data from Apple Health
You will maybe be prompted by Apple Health to allow access. Please allow full access by making sure that all switches are enabled.
Troubles with Apple Health import?
StepsApp securely reads and updates your body measurements from and to Apple Health. We also calculate and save your daily burned calories, so that you can use it in other apps (e.g. calories trackers). In addition StepsApp also saves your workouts, that you have recorded with the StepsApp Apple Watch app, to fill your Activity rings.

You can import your previously tracked steps, distance etc. from Apple Health to visualize and analyze them with our powerful charts, identify trends, and to better set your goals.
If you choose to go in full sync, StepsApp also shows the steps that you track with your Apple Watch or other devices (e.g. Garmin watch).
Your iPhone and your Watch each track your steps independently. By default you see the steps tracked by your Apple Watch on your watch, and steps tracked by your iPhone on your iPhone. If you want the steps to be combined, you have to enable Apple Health Sync.
How to go in sync
Once you are in sync, you might experience that your steps etc. are not updated immediately. This is because your iPhone is now 100% in sync with Apple Health, and Apple Health updates your activity data only every other minute. The step count on your Apple Watch is always live.
Note that after the sync your step count might increase or decrease a bit, depending on your lead device.
To save battery life, the Apple Watch only refreshes complication data of third party apps every 10 minutes. If you want to view your live step count, just tap the complication to open StepsApp.
Open StepsApp on your Apple Watch, swipe from right to left, choose your workout mode, and tap the "Start" button. In order to stop a workout, swipe from right to left again, and tap the stop button.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
